About the app:
Hello! My name is Jacob and I’m a solo designer and developer behind Noobly – new social app for gamers.
The story behind this project is quite simple – I’m an avid gamer old- time gamer myself, and I burned infinite amount of hours inside World of Warcraft, Minecraft, Baldur’s Gate any my personal favourite to unwind – Diablo series.
Yet, after my wonderful daughter was born I noticed how I can’t keep up with my clans and community, and how my old gaming pals grow up and disappear too. You can’t plan a raid or good systematic grind when you have to change diapers at random moments, or have a strict hours for playing: only after you finish work and put your kid to sleep… and only until you pass out yourself.
So, I thought, I could really use an app that would do just that – let me find people that play in the same hours that I have during the day. With all the timezones, night shifts that people have, different sleeping cycles… there have to be at least a couple of freaks that log in every evening, right?
I decided to try and build such app myself. I found flutter – relatively new cross platform solution, and it somehow… clicked with me. With some try and error I was able to build the UI and main functionality, and with some luck and about 6 months of after – hours development it began to work… most of the time.
And here we are – Noobly! App that works a bit like popular dating apps that we know – it let’s you build a profile, subscribe to your favourite games, swipe through profiles of other players, invite people that you find interesting as long – time gamer buddies… and when you declare when you play the most – it will also present you a percentage of common time with other player as a ring around their image.
Similarity to match-up apps is also not an accident. I thought that there are some people, like me, who doesn’t like to send messages in global chat crowded with strangers or post looking-for-group discussion in game forum, hoping for the right people to appear. Who prefer kind of one – to – one way of looking for friends. After all – our gamer virtual lives also matter, and all the adventures are simply more fun when shared with someone that we like.
So please be restless in looking for your prefect gaming buddy match! I’s popular to belittle virtual relationships, but we know better – Friend that you can lost thousands of lives with could be just a friend for life too.
