🎮 LFG, LFM, and LFT: What They Mean and How to Use Them to Find New Gaming Friends
If you’ve spent any time in online lobbies, Discord servers, or game chats, you’ve probably seen messages like “LFG raid,” “LFM healer,” or “LFT comp team.”
At first glance, it might look like a bunch of random letters—but these quick abbreviations are a big part of how gamers connect and form squads. Whether you’re jumping into an MMO, a battle royale, or a competitive FPS, understanding these terms can help you find your people faster.
💡 What Does LFG Mean?
LFG stands for Looking for Group.
You use this when you’re a solo player (or part of a small duo/trio) who wants to join an existing group.
Example:
“LFG for Destiny 2 Nightfall – lvl 1800, mic ready!”
In other words, you’re ready to team up with others who already have a group going—or who are also looking for a few extra players.
🧙♂️ What Does LFM Mean?
LFM stands for Looking for More.
This one’s for when you already have a group but need a few more players to fill specific roles.
Example:
“LFM tank and healer for WoW dungeon – chill run!”
You’re not searching for a group—you are the group! You just need more teammates to complete your party before diving into the action.
🏆 What Does LFT Mean?
LFT stands for Looking for Team.
It’s similar to LFG, but usually used in competitive or organized team games—like Overwatch, Valorant, or Rocket League.
Example:
“LFT Diamond support – flexible schedule, looking for comp team.”
LFT posts are often a bit more serious, showing that you want a long-term or competitive squad instead of a one-time group for a single match.
