In Phasmophobia, cursed items can help investigators—or get them killed. Among them, the Monkey Paw is the most dangerous and unpredictable. It grants wishes, but every wish has a hidden price, often putting players in far more danger than they expected.

✅ How to Find the Monkey Paw
There is a 1 in 7 chance a map will contain the Monkey Paw.
It always spawns in a specific location per map (same spot every time on that map).
The Monkey Paw requires voice chat—players must begin a wish by saying:
“I wish…”
There are 9 total wish types. Here’s what each one does—and the hidden curse attached.

What it does:
Forces a ghost event for ~5 seconds at the ghost’s current location
Helps confirm the ghost room
Hidden price:
The wisher’s screen becomes dark and heavily obscured
Immediately triggers a cursed hunt lasting up to 60 seconds

✅ 2. “I wish for activity.” / “I wish the ghost would do something.”
What it does:
Greatly increases ghost interactions:
Throws objects

Fuse box breaks permanently
Exit door locks for 2 minutes
→ Players are trapped inside

What it does:
Teleports the ghost back to its ghost room
Locks all doors to the room for 60 seconds

Players inside the room are locked in with the ghost
After 60 seconds, a cursed hunt begins

✅ 4. “I wish for sanity.” / “I wish to be sane.”
What it does:
Sets every player’s sanity to 50%
No pills needed
Hidden price:
Passive sanity drain becomes 1.5× faster
The ghost changes to a random room
Great for emergency stabilization, but the ghost relocating can make investigations harder.

What it does:
Reveals the nearest hiding spot
Hidden price:
Lights in your room shatter
Ghost always knows your electronics are on
→ If your flashlight or gear is active, the ghost can track you

What it does:
Forces the exit door to unlock, even during a hunt
Lets players escape immediately

What it does:
Revives one dead player
Hidden price:
50% chance the wisher dies in their place
Some players try saying this wish while standing at the exit to escape death, but it’s unclear if this is intentional or a bug.

What it does:
Removes one incorrect evidence type from the journal
→ Instantly eliminates many wrong ghost types
Hidden price:
Cursed hunt begins right next to the wisher
Their:
Vision becomes distorted
Audio becomes muffled
Movement becomes impaired
This effect only ends when they die or the mission ends
This wish is powerful for the team, but the user is effectively done for.

What it does:
Changes the weather
Hidden price:
50% chance the weather becomes light or heavy rain instead
Temporary blindness
The wisher loses 25% sanity
